BOOK EARLY FOR THE GB NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Catenians hoping to attend this year’s GB National Conference, which takes place in Liverpool from 16 to 19 May 2019, are urged to book early to avoid disappointment.

Amidst a packed schedule of events taking place across the great city, are Solemn High Mass at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, a golf tournament at Childwall Golf Club, a grand banquet at Aintree Race Course, a civic welcome at the Adelphi Hotel and speeches from Lord Alton and Bishop John Arnold.

The programme begins on Thursday 16 May with Mass at the Adelphi Hotel, celebrated by Bishop Vincent Malone. This is followed by a triple meeting of local Circles, Liverpool, Birkenhead and Chester and a post-Circle dinner with speaker, Anne Saltrese from Across Liverpool, providing food for thought. Ladies are invited to both Mass and the dinner.

Friday’s civic welcome at the city’s famous Adelphi Hotel is not to be missed. With music provided by Chester High School Choir, it is sure to be a memorable event. Also taking place that day is the golf tournament for Raymond Rand and Tom Wolfenden at Childwall Golf Club and a communal evening dinner at the Adelphi Hotel.

The conference takes place on Saturday 18 May at St George’s Hall, which is located opposite Lime Street Station, in the heart of the city. St George’s is a Grade I listed building and one of the country’s finest examples of neoclassical architecture. British politician and life peer Lord Alton is the keynote speaker.

Later that day there are two events to choose from, both of which take place at Aintree Race Course, home of the Grand National. The black tie grand banquet is hosted by National President Phil Brown and his wife Linda and features speaker, the very popular Bishop John Arnold. The carnival ball, which is also a black tie event, is hosted by National Vice President Eddie O’Donnell and his wife Catherine, with musical entertainment provided by the band Junction 7.

The programme closes on Sunday 19 May with Solemn High Mass at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, celebrated by Archbishop Malcolm McMahon and Bishop Peter Brignall. This is followed by a farewell lunch at the Marriott Hotel.

Ladies are welcome to attend the conference but please make sure that all names are registered on the booking form.

“The annual conference is a wonderful Catenian social weekend. It’s also an opportunity to renew old friendships and forge new ones, to be part of the Saturday conference and to take part in the motion debates,” says Bernard Noakes, GB National Secretary. “The LLC and GBNC look forward to welcoming as many Brothers and ladies as possible to the conference, for what promises to be another successful Catenian weekend in Liverpool.”
